General Geology deals with the dynamic nature of the Earth and the processes that shape our planet. It provides an understanding of the origin of the solar system and explains the fundamental characteristics of the Earth such as its shape, size, and age. The subject also discusses the various geological processes that occur both on the Earth’s surface and within its interior, which are responsible for the formation and modification of landforms and geological structures over time.
This block introduces the basic concepts necessary to understand the Earth and its evolution. It is organized into the following units:

Unit 1: Scope and Development of Geology – Introduces the meaning, branches, importance, and historical development of geology.

Unit 2: Solar System – Explains the origin, structure, and components of the solar system with special reference to the Earth.
