1. Why This Course is Needed ?

The course design titled "Creating Accessible Interactive OER with H5P for STEM Educators in Bilingual (English and Telugu Languages)" is thoughtfully designed based on insights from a needs assessment survey involving STEM teachers and educators from schools, colleges, and universities. The survey revealed a high level of interest in Open Educational Resources (OER), alongside varying levels of awareness and comfort with digital content creation. This course is needed because many STEM educators in schools, colleges, and universities are interested in using Open Educational Resources (OER) but face significant challenges such as limited awareness, lack of technical skills, time constraints, and difficulty finding subject-specific materials. In response, the course structure addresses these needs by providing foundational knowledge of OER and Creative Commons, practical training in creating interactive content using H5P, and guidance on ethical AI use in content development. Delivered bilingually in English and Telugu, the course enhances accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring educators from diverse linguistic backgrounds can participate effectively. With a focus on hands-on practice, reflection, and impact evaluation, the course empowers STEM educators across different educational levels to create, adapt, and share high-quality interactive OER tailored to their specific teaching contexts.

The course is entirely online and spans 40 learning hours. It integrates bilingual instruction to enhance accessibility and reach. Learners engage in diverse activities such as reading, watching, discussing, practising and producing content, aligned with clear outcomes like defining, applying, analyzing and reflecting. Notably, the course emphasizes accessibility, ethical AI use, and impact measurement of created content, reinforcing its relevance for inclusive STEM education. The course design offers flexibility and practical engagement, making it a robust blueprint for educators aiming to integrate open, interactive and inclusive resources into their teaching practices.

Upon completing this course, participants will possess the skills to create and develop accessible, engaging, and interactive Open Educational Resources (OER) for STEM disciplines using H5P tools. Moreover, participants will acquire skills in utilising AI-driven technologies for effective and innovative content creation, including text generation, quizzes, translations, and interactive media.  They will be prepared to remix and repurpose existing Open Educational Resources, incorporate accessible features, and cater to the diverse needs of various learners, including individuals with disabilities.  This course enables educators to develop inclusive, egalitarian, and technology-enhanced learning environments using open, digital, and AI-driven pedagogies.

By empowering educators with these skills, the course supports the creation of inclusive, high-quality, and multilingual OERs, which are essential for India’s diverse learning population.

"Creating Accessible Interactive OER with H5P for STEM Educators in Bilingual (English and Telugu Languages)" అనే శీర్షికతో రూపొందించబడిన ఈ కోర్సు, పాఠశాలలు, కళాశాలలు, మరియు విశ్వవిద్యాలయాలలోని STEM ఉపాధ్యాయులు మరియు విద్యావేత్తలతో నిర్వహించిన అవసరాల విశ్లేషణ (needs assessment survey) ఆధారంగా జాగ్రత్తగా రూపొందించబడింది.

ఈ కోర్సు ఇంగ్లీష్ మరియు తెలుగు భాషల్లో అందించబడటం వలన, భాషా అవరోధాలను అధిగమించి, సమగ్రతను కల్పిస్తుంది. అటు ఇంగ్లీషు మాధ్యమంలో చదివే వారు, ఇటు తెలుగు మాధ్యమంలోని వారు కూడా ఈ కోర్సును సులభంగా అర్థం చేసుకుని, సమర్థవంతంగా పాల్గొనగలుగుతారు. 

ఈ కోర్సు మొత్తం 40 లెర్నింగ్ గంటల వ్యవధిలో పూర్తిగా ఆన్‌లైన్‌లో నిర్వహించబడుతుంది. అభ్యాసకులు వివిధ రకాల ఇంటరాక్టివ్ కార్యకలాపాల ద్వారా పాల్గొంటారు. ఇందులో:

Every block will start with learning objectives followed by module resources and activities.

  • Meet and Greet — an occasion to present oneself to other attendees
  • Share Your Experience with OER and H5P - a platform for reflection and sharing any previous engagement or utilization.

These introductory tasks help personalize your learning journey and foster a sense of connection among.

Upon successful completion of Modules 1 to 4, along with all related tasks, you will obtain access to a curated list of External Resources that will improve your comprehension of OER and H5P.

Upon the completion of all four modules and respective activities the Final Assignment block will be accessible, signifying the concluding phase of your course adventure.

Upon successful completion of the Final Assignment, submitting the Course Feedback and Post Course survey which is essential in enhancing the quality of the course and subsequent editions in future.

After submitting your feedback, you will be permitted to obtain your certificate of completion or participation, depending upon your progress in the course.

6. Accessing Course Completion Certificate

To achieve Course Completion Certificate you have to achieve Passgrade in all activities where ever necessary, otherwise you receive Course Participation Certificate only.

8. AI Usage in this course

We want to be transparent about AI usage in this course. We used especially in translations and also in generating FAQ section using H5P SMART import option. 

Here are our experiences with AI in Translating English to Telugu

As part of our project, we have been using AI tools to assist in translating content from English to Telugu. These tools have been helpful in speeding up the translation process and providing a basic structure. However, our experience has shown that AI-generated translations often lack cultural sensitivity, contextual understanding, and grammatical accuracy. For instance, certain idioms, subject-specific terminology, or regional expressions are frequently mistranslated, which can lead to confusion or a loss of meaning.

Here are some examples we encountered:

"Content Creation" was translated by AI as కంటెంట్ సృష్టి, which sounded unnatural. We manually corrected it to కంటెంట్ తయారీ, which is more commonly understood. Similarly, "Teaching Environment" was rendered by AI as బోధన పర్యా వరణంలో, but it made more sense when corrected to బోధన కార్యకలాపాల్లో or కార్యక్రమాలలో to better reflect the intended context.

Due to such limitations, we often need to manually review and revise the AI-generated output to ensure clarity, accuracy, and contextual relevance. While AI is a useful supportive tool, it cannot fully replace human judgment—especially when translating into a rich and nuanced language like Telugu. Careful human intervention is essential to maintain quality and meaning in the final content.
